Indiana Department of Revenue, (Safety and Insurance Dept) regulates household moves. Local movers are required to have their operating authority through the state. Each household goods mover is required to file a tariff with the Indiana Dept of Revenue, containing their rates, charges for (local) intrastate transport of household goods. The mover can charge whatever they want as long as it is published in their tariff. The tariff outlines all of the services and charges for the movers, and the Indiana Dept of Revenue (Safety and Insurance Division) holds all movers in the state of Indiana responsible for following by their published rates, policies and procedures as set forth by the Dept. DOT # is required on the vehicle.
