Illinois Commerce Commission Regulates Illinois Intra-state household good moves.
Illinois Rules and Regulations
Illinois Commerce Commission regulates Illinois household good movers for local and intrastate moves. The moving company is responsible for publishing a tariff, and the tariff is filed and regulated with the ILCC. The tariff outlines all of the services and charges for the movers, and the ILCC holds all movers in the state of Illinois responsible for following their published rates, and the regulations and procedures as set forth by the Commission.
In Illinois if your move is less than 35 miles, it is priced on an hourly basis. If the move is over 35 miles and falls entirely within the area covered by the counties of Cook, DuPage, Lake, McHenry, Kane, Kendall, or Will , it is still done on an hourly basis. If the move is over 35 miles, it is priced by weight and distance.  Movers are required to display ILCC # on their vehicles when doing any moves within Illinois. Discounts or flat rating are not allowed on moves within Illinois except in certain very restricted geographic areas.
One important thing to remember is to make sure your local mover carries workers compensation insurance and the proper licensing on equipment and vehicles. All movers within Illinois are required to show proof of workers compesation as a condition of their license to operate.
