Georgia Public Service Commission Regulates Georgia’s IntraState household goods Moving.
Georgia Rules and Regulations
Georgia Public Service Commission, (GPSC), regulates local and intrastate household goods movers from point A to point B in the state of Georgia. All movers are required to be licensed and insured through the GPSC. Local movers are required to hold a GPSC Certificate. The movers must file under the Maximum Rate Tariff, and the tariff is filed and regulated through the GPSC. This tariff outlines all of the services and charges for the movers, and the GPSC holds all local movers in the state of Georgia responsible for following by their published rates, policies and procedures as set forth by the commission.
A local move in Georgia is less than 50 miles and is priced on an hourly basis. If the move is over 50 miles, it is considered intrastate and is priced by weight and distance. In the state of Georgia, moving companies may offer customers discounts off the maximum rate price on local or intrastate moves.
One important thing to remember is that you make sure your local mover carries workers compensation insurance and the proper licensing on equipment and vehicles.
To verify a moving company’s licensed status or to confirm they have the proper requirements, you may call:
